South Asia Updates 2026

South Asia Updates 2026 was held as a forum that brought together students, scholars, and researchers to engage in thoughtful and critical discussions on the evolving dynamics of South Asia. Organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia in collaboration with the Institute for International Affairs (IIFA) UIII, the event provided a platform for participants to exchange perspectives and deepen their understanding of one of the world’s most complex and strategically significant regions.

Under the theme “South Asia at a Crossroads: Crisis, Contestation, and Reordering in a Multipolar Era,” the forum examined the multiple challenges and transformations shaping the region today. Discussions highlighted how South Asia is navigating a period of uncertainty and transition, where domestic political developments intersect with broader regional and global shifts.

Through a series of panel discussions, speakers explored a wide range of pressing issues, including regional conflicts, diplomatic relations, climate related challenges, political economy, and the changing geopolitical landscape. The conversations emphasized how these interconnected dynamics are influencing governance, regional stability, and the future trajectory of South Asian states in an increasingly multipolar world.

The forum featured speakers from UIII as well as contributors from other academic institutions, creating a diverse and intellectually engaging environment for dialogue. Each panel encouraged participants to critically reflect on contemporary developments in the region while drawing connections to broader global debates in international relations and area studies.

The program concluded with an expert discussion session featuring Farish A. Noor and Riefqi Muna, who shared their insights on the broader implications of the discussions and reflected on the shifting political and geopolitical landscape of South Asia. Their perspectives enriched the forum by connecting the panel discussions to wider regional and global developments.

South Asia Updates 2026 ultimately served as a meaningful academic space for dialogue, collaboration, and deeper engagement with the complex realities shaping South Asia today
